Australian Shepherd’s Dynamite Turn-Around!
Frosty holds a special place for Jennifer H. and her son. According to Jennifer, “Frosty was initially broke by my nephew who, after serving a near-fatal tour in Afghanistan, now suffers from severe memory loss. One thing he does remember well, however, is Frosty’s training! It was very important to me to do whatever I could for Frosty to keep him well.”
After Frosty started working again, Jennifer’s father used him to run yearlings in the mountains of Wyoming. Due to the often hard and tough terrain, Frosty started experiencing bone chips in both knees, and eventually was diagnosed with arthritis.
This is Frosty’s touching recovery story, told by Jennifer:
“Frosty came to our ranch about five years ago at 6 years-old. He was showing signs of lameness then, but my 7 year-old son, Hunter, instantly fell in love with him. They were best buddies from the get-go! Frosty was stiff and in pain, however, and he would frequently fight Hunter when he tried to ride or work him. The next summer, I injected his knees but found that it created an unsafe riding situation for my son, so I stopped. I tried several other supplements to help relieve the pain in his arthritic knees with no results.
Over the past two years we were faced with the real possibility of putting Frosty to sleep so he would not have to suffer. Hunter and I have spent many hours clinging to Frosty’s neck and bawling at the possibility of losing our friend.
